The road network of the island is very good. Apart from the city of Chios, where the roads are quite narrow and during the summer months they show increased traffic, especially in July and August, the rest of the island is easy and safe to drive. All main roads are asphalted as well as most of the provincial roads leading to the smaller villages. Road marking and gas stations are very good at all around the island.
Chios public transportation
In order to move around Chios you can use the urban and intercity buses or to use a taxi.
In Chios there are 2 bus companies that serve passengers to all directions.
- Blue city buses serve the city (4 zones) and the nearby directions as Karfas Beach and Vrontados (approx. 1,50 Euro).

- Green buses depart daily from the city and serve Pyrgi (ticket cost approx. 3,00 Euro), Mesta (approx. 4,20 Euro), Lithi Beach (approx. 2,70 Euro), Kardamyla (approx. 3,30 Euro) and Kambia (approx. 5,80 Euro) via Langada (approx. 2,00 Euro). Twice-weekly buses serve Volissos (approx. 4,50 Euro).
- Terminal: Chios Port (14, Aegeou Avenue) on the same building with the Port Passengers Terminal. The terminal is open around the clock. Fully air-conditioned, offering “Left Luggage” locker services.

Taxi stations in Chios
Moving around with a taxi in Chios is a very cheap and convenient way, compared to other countries.
- You can find taxis around the central square and at the port (there are always taxis waiting for each vessel arrive).
- Taxis in Chios are coloured burgundy and white, whereas taxis that operate to the villages are silver-coloured.
