Africa Morocco Link

Africa Morocco Link logo

If you are planning to travel between Europe and North Africa, Africa Morocco Link, widely recognized as AML, provides one of the most reliable and efficient maritime connections across the Strait of Gibraltar. Established in 2016 and recently backed by major shipping expertise (co-founded by Attica Group and currently a key part of the Stena Line network), AML has quickly become a primary bridge connecting Algeciras in southern Spain with the modern port complex of Tangier Med in northern Morocco.

As an official booking partner, goferry offers a direct platform to check live daily timetables, verify vehicle lane space, and secure your electronic tickets instantly. Whether you are driving a fully loaded car for a family relocation, exploring North Africa with a camper van, or traveling as a foot passenger, booking through goferry ensures a transparent and streamlined boarding process.

Essential travel tips for passengers sailing with AML Ferries

Crossing international maritime borders between Spain and Morocco requires specific preparations. The goferry crew has compiled these essential operational guidelines for a hassle-free journey:

  • Strict passport & visa requirements: Because you are crossing an international border into Morocco, a valid passport is mandatory for all passengers, including infants. Ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining. Depending on your nationality, you must check visa requirements before arriving at the port

  • Onboard passport control (passport stamping): Unlike European domestic routes, on the Algeciras to Tangier Med line, you must get your passport stamped by Moroccan police officers on board the ferry during the crossing. Do not wait until you dock; follow the onboard announcements to the designated immigration desks immediately after boarding

  • Vehicle customs documentation: If you are boarding the ship with a car, motorcycle, or motorhome, you must carry the vehicle’s original registration documents (Logbook), a valid insurance Green Card that explicitly covers Morocco and a written authorization letter if the vehicle is rented or not registered in the driver's name

  • Required port check-in windows: Due to extensive border customs and security screenings, check-in timelines are strictly enforced. Passengers traveling with a vehicle must arrive at the Algeciras terminal at least two to three hours prior to departure. Foot passengers should check in at least 90 minutes before sailing

Schedules & routes: Timetables across the Strait

AML maintains a continuous "marine highway" layout, operating high-frequency shuttle services throughout the day to ensure flexible connections between Europe and Africa.

Algeciras (Spain) to Tangier Med (Morocco)

  • Morocco Sun / Morocco Star

  • 1.5 hour

  • Multiple daily departures (day & night)

Tangier Med (Morocco) to Algeciras (Spain)

  • Conventional car ferry

  • 1.5 hour

  • Round-the-clock sailings year-round

Note: While the crossing itself takes less than two hours, border control and customs clearance at both terminals can add significant time to your total itinerary, especially during the busy summer peak season.

AML ferry tickets: Offers, discounts & fares

You can easily secure the most competitive rates for your cross-continental voyage by taking advantage of the automated savings integrated into the goferry booking engine:

  • Round-trip bundle savings: Booking your outward and return crossings simultaneously via goferry triggers promotional pricing algorithms, offering a lower total cost than purchasing two separate one-way tickets

  • Child & infant tariff reductions: Infants under 2 years of age travel completely free of charge (sharing a seat/space with an adult), while children between 2 and 12 years old qualify for a 50% discount on the standard adult passenger base fare

  • Group & vehicle package deals: AML frequently offers seasonal promotional rates for passenger vehicles and multi-seat bookings, which are automatically calculated and applied during checkout on our platform

Frequently asked questions about your booking

What is the difference between Tangier Med & Tangier Ville?

Tangier Med is a massive, modern industrial port located roughly 40 kilometers east of Tangier city center, which is where AML ferries arrive from Algeciras. Tangier Ville is the historical urban port located directly in the heart of the city, primarily serving fast craft arriving from Tarifa.

Can I book a rental car on an AML ferry via goferry?

Yes. If you do not know your rental car's exact license plate details yet, you can write "RENTAL" in the registration field during your goferry checkout. However, you must ensure that your car rental company explicitly permits crossing international borders from Spain into Morocco.

Is Wi-Fi internet access available during the crossing?

Due to the short duration of the transit across the Strait, there is no public satellite Wi-Fi network on board. As you move away from the Spanish coast, European mobile data roaming will stop working, and Moroccan network rates will apply. We advise turning off data roaming to avoid high cellular bills.

Are there private cabins available on AML ferries?

Because the Algeciras to Tangier Med route is a relatively short daylight or brief night shuttle transit, passengers generally travel in the comfortable air-conditioned pullman seating lounges or on the open-air sun decks. Private overnight cabins are generally not required for this crossing.

Inside the AML fleet: Reliable conventional car ferries

The company's link fleet consists of large, highly stable conventional vessels designed to handle heavy passenger volumes and mixed vehicle freight efficiently.

MV Morocco Star & MV Morocco Sun

These robust, open-ocean car ferries measure up to 143 meters in length and are optimized for rapid turnaround times at the ports. They feature large, multi-level garage decks capable of accommodating hundreds of cars and commercial trucks. Onboard amenities include spacious air-conditioned passenger seating lounges, clean cafeteria bistros serving Halal-compliant meals, coffee bars, currency exchange desks, prayer rooms and duty-free shopping zones.
