The port of Piraeus is the biggest and busiest one and serves ferries to the Saronic Islands, to Crete, to the Cyclades, to the Dodecanese, and to North Aegean Islands.
There are 10 gates in the port of Piraeus and each gate serves a different destination.

There is a choice of modern regular and High-speed catamaran ferries running frequently from/to Piraeus with stops along the way. Cars are allowed on most ferries running from/to Piraeus, for an additional fee and children usually travel for half price!


HOW TO GET TO PIRAEUS FERRY PORT

From Athens Int. Airport to Piraeus

  • Piraeus port is 37 km west of Athens International Airport. The port is well connected all year round by public transportation.

Here-under some suggestions for getting to Piraeus Port by landing in Athens airport.

By Metro from Airport to Piraeus

  • Take Metro Line 3 from the airport terminal to Monastiraki Sq. (city center), go up and take the Green line 1 to Piraeus station exactly out of the Piraeus port. The trip from the Airport to Monastiraki station and to Piraeus harbor lasts 60 to 70 minutes.
  • Trains run every 30 minutes, 7 days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

By public Bus from Athens airport to the port

  • Take the public Bus X96 from the airport terminal (between doors 4 and 5) to Karaiskaki Sq. in Piraeus, right outside the ferry harbor.
  • The bus leaves every 20 minutes during the day and every 40 minutes at night and the trip takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to one hour and a half.

Taxi from Airport to the embarkation gate

  • Book a taxi online in advance and let your driver be waiting for you upon your arrival. The drive takes 45 to 60 minutes and costs approx. 55 to 60 Euros.

From Athens City Centre to Piraeus

  • Piraeus port is 10km from Athens city center. The port is well connected all year round by public transportation.

From Athens to Piraeus by Metro

  • The Green Line goes to Piraeus station exactly out of Piraeus port.
  • If you’re coming from Syntagma, Plaka, or Omonia you’ll need to switch trains at Monastiraki station to get on the Green Line 1. The metro runs from 5 am to midnight and the trip takes approx. 20-25 minutes.

From Athens to Piraeus by public Bus

  • Take the bus nr. 040 from Syntagma Square or nr. 049 from Omonia Sq. to Piraeus port (Karaiskaki Sq.), right outside the ferry harbor.
  • The bus runs every 15 minutes, 7 days/24 hours and the trip takes about 25 to 35 minutes. A one-way ticket (2018): 1,40 Euro.

Tip: Take the free shuttle bus inside the Port that run from the Terminal Station (gate 5), around the north side of the port and to the most departure gates!

Taxi from Athens downtown to Piraeus port

  • A taxi will normally take about 20 minutes to drive from Omonoia or Syntagma area to the port of Piraeus. The distance is about 10 km and cost (2018) approx. 15-20 Euro. Best is to pre-arrange the taxi drive to Piraeus with your hotel receptionist.

HOW GETTING OUT FROM PIRAEUS

From Piraeus to Athens Int. Airport

  • Piraeus port is approx. 40 km west of Athens International Airport and well connected by public transportation.

By Metro from Piraeus to the Airport

  • Take the free bus from your arrival gate to gate 5. Cross the street and purchase your metro tickets either at the cashier of the station or in the automatic machines.
  • You get the metro direction KIFISSIA (Green Line 1) and in 20 minutes’ ride, you reach the MONASTIRAKI metro station. Change into Line 3, direction AIRPORT and be there in 40 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes, 7 days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

From Piraeus to Athens airport by Public Bus

  • Take the public Bus X96 from Piraeus/Karaiskaki Sq. (right outside the ferry harbor, Gate 4-5) to Athens Airport Terminal.
  • The bus leaves every 20 minutes during the day and every 40 minutes at night and the trip takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to one hour and a half.
